Our annual Art Auction is one of our major fundraising events. As we say, "it's all about the music," and this event helps us continue to bring you that music. Friday, September 24, 2010 The Brookside Country Club, Macungie, PA 7:00 PM Art Preview and Reception Elegant Hors D'oeuvres Cash bar and complimentary soft drinks. 8:00 PM Live and Silent Auctions Derek Foster, Auctioneer Dessert and Coffee following The PA Sinfonia will host its 20th annual Art Auction on Friday, September 24 at Brookside Country Club in Macungie. This popular major fundraiser helps to support the busy concert season. Instead of playing horn with Sinfonia (as he did this past spring) French horn player Derek Foster, will show off his “doubling skills” as an auctioneer! The preview and reception begins at 7:00 p.m., followed by live and silent auctions at 8:00 p.m. Original art, gifts, restaurant certificates, fall mums, gift baskets and certificates for various services have been donated by generous artists and sponsors. "Our Art Auction is definitely not intimidating, and certainly not just for well-to-do art collectors," explains Corliss Bachman, president of the Sinfonia board. "This event is fun and affordable. We welcome everyone. This is an opportunity for regular people to own a beautiful piece of original art by someone from the community." Watch this space for descriptions of some of the art to be sold. Repeating a popular feature of last year's auction is a cash-and-carry sale of potted chrysanthemums, ready for fall planting. The mums, which will decorate the country club entrance for the guests' arrival, would all like to find a good home by the end of the evening.
"When we plan the Sinfonia concerts," Bachman said, "besides presenting the highest quality music, our major focus is to produce programs that are accessible to people of all backgrounds and interests. The same is true of this auction. It will be easy to understand and enjoy." Art Auction committee members are: Corliss Bachman, Michael Baker, Barbara Bigelow, Allan Birney, Connie and Dick Cowen, Catherine DeBoeser, Janet Harrison, Patricia Hudson, Jeanne-Marie Maiale, JoAnn Meixner, Kiki Pillarella, Lynne and Bob Strother and Bill Trach. Tickets are $40 per person. Reservations preferred by calling the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra office at 610 434-7811. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. |
